A day of mourning.
Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who morn, for they shall be comforted.
We all feel sad sometimes. And most of us can remember a time in our lives when someone came along and made us feel better. But Christ isn’t talking about feeling sad because something happened to us. He is talking about recognizing sin-and realizing what we have done. For it was sin that caused pain and death but more than that it caused a rift between man and God. On a simple version, our sin is going to cause us punishment for all eternity.
But Jesus tells us that if we recognize our sin, realize the consequences and understand that we really, really, REALLY are in trouble, all we have to do is ask Him to take over. To repent-or stop doing what we were doing-and start doing what He would have us to do. Then He would step in, take our punishment and forever comfort and care for us.
But to do that, we must first recognize that we are sinners. That we have broken every law the Most High God has laid out before us. If we truly understand and believe, then yes, we sure WILL feel guilt and same and-well, mourn for what we had, mourn for our own actions, mourn for the pain we have caused our own Creator. Once we reach that level, then we can turn to Him who took away our sins, accept His sacrifice and He will comfort us. We will then know what it means to be ‘supremely blessed’.

Prayer: Father, I come to You knowing that I am a sinner. I’m sorry for what I have done, and how much it must hurt You to see me do stupid things. I ask that You forgive me, that You give me strength to turn from my sin and always strive to do my best for Your glory. I thank You especially for sending Jesus to take my punishment. I know that I can do nothing to make up for what I have done, but I ask that You fill me with Your Spirit, to guide me until I can stand with Jesus and hear Him say: I took His punishment. He has been forgiven.
