Mercy
Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
This is something we can do. This is something we SHOULD do. This is something we should WANT to do, because this is something that was shown to us. Mercy isn’t something that can be bought, it is a free gift. And in our case, there is no way we deserved it. Scripture is very clear: we deserve death.
But in Romans chapter 5, Paul puts it clear and plain: God demonstrated His love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ came and died so that we might be saved. This is mercy. Jesus didn’t have to do that. And we didn’t ask Him to do that. No agreement was reached, no payment was made by us. He did it out of love for US. So likewise we too can emulate Christ in offering mercy. And the best way to do that is to spread this good news, the Gospel. Even if we don’t like someone, or don’t think they deserve it, that truly IS where mercy comes through. Given freely and with love, as was given to us-freely and with love.
Scripture:
Isaiah 53:6
Psalm 58:3
Romans 5:8
Prayer: You and You alone are worthy of glory, and honor, and power because You and You alone did things that we can never repay. In Your mercy You accepted and forgave me. Let me likewise show mercy to my fellow man, and show mercy to them by telling about the greatest mercy ever offered, Your love for us.
