Day 4-Genesis 1:14-19 Sun and moon

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
Psalm 33:6

Reading:
He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting.
Psalm 104:19

93,000,000 miles away from the earth is the sun, 235,000 miles away is the moon. One of the hardest parts of scripture to grasp is the timing of the creation of these two bodies. For we already have seen that God created light and dark, yet what BRINGS the light-the sun-isn’t created until this day, 3 days after light is created. Plants need light to survive, and yet they had what they needed before the sun-what we think of as the ‘light source’-was created.

How is this possible? How is any of this possible? The moon is the exact distance away and rotates at the precise oblique orbit to cause the tides to behave the way they do-exactly as we need them to do to retain any semblance of balance on earth’s own axis, the sun is the exact distance away to give us what plants need to survive-not too cold, not too hot.

God created light first. Either this is a misprint, or an unexplainable mystery that shows us the creative power of God. The ‘light source’. It isn’t the sun, because the sun was created after light. It was created by the Light Source. The sun and moon are reflections of this creative genius. And now WE are called to be the ‘light of the world’. To be a reflection of the genius of salvation, given to us by the Light Source.

‘Let your light so shine before man’. What is this light, but a reflection of the One who gives it? ‘So that they might see the Father, who is in heaven’.  The light is eternal. The sun and moon were created to spread the physical part of the light, just as we are called to spread the eternal part of the light.

Scriptural Concepts:
To Him who made the great lights, For His lovingkindness is everlasting: The sun to rule by day, For His lovingkindness is everlasting, the moon and stars to rule by night, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Psalm 136: 7-9

Let them fear You while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
Psalm 72:5
