Day 6-Genesis 24-31 Land mammals, insects, mankind
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-14
Reading:
Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?
Job 35:11
And God created man. Unlike all of the other days, where God looked and said it was good, here He looks and says that it was ‘very good’. Many will say that God might’ve made a mistake declaring it ‘very good’ with the mess we have made of things. After all, we were given dominion over the earth and haven’t really taken care of things.
But then again, God didn’t create us and call us ‘very good’ because we were the center of the universe. He created us and called us ‘very good’ because He made us in His likeness-to understand, reason, think and love. To have compassion. To work. And He knew we were going to screw it up. And THAT is what made this part of creation-us-the very good. For He would use us to also set about the redemption that the whole of the universe would witness. It is through us-man-that He would set the stage that He would send His son to redeem us, to forgive our stupidity, so that when it is all said and done He will then come and dwell with us-completely, wholly and for eternity. Not as the invisible creator that we look around and see His works, but Him, dwelling here with us so that He can point out and show us these things. Not to dwell just spiritually, but in a physical way that is so far beyond our comprehension we can’t even fathom it. The entire universe, set up and set in place just so WE could fail, but through us also the universe could be redeemed, purified, made perfect.
Could God have skipped this part-the filthy dirty mucking around and doing stupid things we do? Sure. But God didn’t want robots. He wanted a creation that could truly see His divine attributes and to have a desire to BE with Him, to share and worship with Him. He knew Adam and Eve would fail. But He also knew that because of what He did-what He was going to do-what we were about to witness-was a complete and true act of love on the cross.
And THAT was ‘very good’.
Scriptural Concepts:
The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 11:6-9
But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
Job 41:31-33
