Day 6: The Tabernacle Tent: The Holy Place.
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
Hebrews 9:11
And now we come to the centerpiece of the courtyard: a tent measuring about 15X45. It is divided into two rooms: the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. It is estimate that in today’s money over 10 MILLION dollars went into an area that had only about 675 square yards of floor space. It has four coverings-what make up the tent itself. Embroidered, fine linen, the next of woven goat hair followed by a red-dyed one of ram skin and finally one made from a ‘sea mammal’, probably from one of the (now extinct) inland porpoises or dugongs that were in the Red Sea. (The KJV mistranslated this to ‘Badger Skins’. Hard to believe I said the KJV mistranslated something and lightening did not strike but I did and it didn’t…)
Now I must be honest-I have read so many different comments and thoughts and opinions about what each separate covering meant and why they were set specific ways and the they had a certain number of pins that honestly I cannot say (in good conscience) what any of it meant. So I leave this part, Dear Reader for each of you to decide for yourselves. What I DO feel confident in saying is that God is very exacting. He has specifics on everything and we come along and try to change things to fit what we think should be and then the trouble starts. So let us leave the outside and look through the opening.
We can see inside, and about halfway back see the veil that separates everything from the Holy of Holies. That is where the High Priest can go just once a year. Priests can enter into the Holy Place and that is what Christ beckons us to do. Because He made us priests and there are things inside that He wants to show us-to teach us more about Him. So tomorrow, let us step inside and explore more of what Christ has to show us as we approach the most High God.
Scripture reading for today:
Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.
I Samuel 16:7b
…The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Tim Germann says:
The tabernacle had to be absolutely stunning to look at considering what we read went into the construction of it.
