Pure of Heart
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
David was a man after God’s own heart. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t sin. And sometimes his sin was pretty severe, in our way of thinking. Of course, to God, ALL sin separates us from Him, and He sees them ALL as severe. He was very upfront with the Israelites, telling them to ‘Be Holy, for I am Holy’. Peter exhorts the early Christians for just that as well.
When David penned the 51st Psalm, he had been confronted by Nathan about his relationship with Bathsheba and his instructions for the murder of Uriah, her husband. But he immediately repented, confessed his sin, and fell on his knees to seek God’s forgiveness. He did not do this lightly, but scripture tells us it was a deep and painful experience. But it brought him back into a proper relationship with God.
Jesus offers that to us – a path for a clean heart and a relationship back with God. All we need to do is repent, call on Him to forgive us, and instill in us a clean, pure heart. So that we, too can one day see God.

Prayer: Make my heart clean, Lord. I ask for forgiveness for the sins that I have committed and the strength to stay on the path of righteousness. You and You alone are holy and worthy, and I strive to be like You. Holy.
