Day 1- Genesis 1:3-6 Light
And again Jesus spoke: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
Reading:
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10
‘Let there be light’…God didn’t say ‘Let there appear a great ball of flaming gas, brilliant and shining so that we can see’. No, He said ‘Let there be light…’
We tend to overlook this part because-again-it just doesn’t fit our thinking. Because light comes from a source-the sun, stars, moon (actually it only reflects light), flashlights, candle, lightbulb…light is created from something else. It doesn’t just appear. And yet, here it does. Maybe this is where we get the idea of a ‘Big Bang’, because a ‘bang’ coincides with an explosion and an explosion causes smoke and noise and light. But we don’t see any evidence that occurred, because something wold have had to cause that explosion. A catalyst.
Except there WAS a catalyst. It was the voice of the Most High God, who has complete lordship and dominion over all that has ever existed or ever will. His WORD cause light to appear from nothing. He SPOKE and it happened. We can get all wrapped up in trying to figure out-with our finite minds-something infinite, or we can stop to consider we have His word still, in the form of the Holy Scripture. How powerful must this Word be, that it forms things from nothing? And we have access to it! And if the Word is so powerful that it caused light when there was nothing to give light, we can rest assured that this Word exists today in the form and context It was always intended to be.
Try and understand? How? Some of us still can’t quite grasp the concept of tying our shoes, let alone proper punctuation in a sentence. How can we possibly understand something as powerful-yet simple-as a WORD?
BUT… Jesus said that He is the Word. So maybe if we start there-with reading what Jesus said-things will become clearer for us. Because if the Word is THAT powerful, if we truly seek the Word, it will reveal itself!
Scriptural Concepts:
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
John 1:3
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
Proverbs 4:18
Prayer:
Pamela Boehme says:
Parson John, when I read or contemplate God speaking the universe into existence, my thoughts always go to Moses. The Lord told Moses to speak to the rock and water would pour out, but he didn’t.
