The Breastplate of Righteousness
We know what a breastplate is. It covers the chest area. And what is the major organ in the chest? The heart. The Breastplate of Righteousness protects our heart. Solomon will speak of protecting he heart, for everything flows from it. David asks God to create in him a pure heart.
How are we attacked thorough our heart? A blow to the heart is fatal. And if we think about it, the attack here comes not from destroying our heart, but pulling it away from God. ‘Achy Breaks Heart’. ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’. ‘Beat of My Heart’. ‘Heart of Glass’. Heartache Tonight’. ‘I’ll Never Break Your Heart’. ‘Put A Little Love In Your Heart’. ‘Total eclipse of My Heart’. ‘When Your Heart Finds Christmas’. (Yeah, I had to get at least ONE Christmas reference in…)
The enemy uses the heart as an emotional wedge, focusing us on our feelings instead of seeking the heart of Christ. For if we can be diverted away from TRUE love-the one that says that God so loved the world-then everything else is just wasted space. Once that happens, our focus-our love-goes out the window. But all is not lost. In the last letter John will write-the one written to the churches called ‘Revelation’, Christ will urge us to remember our first love, repent and return. For THAT is true love, that God sent Him into the world not to condemn it, but that through Him all the world will be saved.

Prayer: Make in me that clean heart that David talked about. Help me to avoid the traps and tricks of the enemy and keep my heart pure and focused on You.
