The Helmet of Salvation

Salvation is a gift, freely given. But our minds-the brain that lies in our head-can cause us much grief. We question, we allow other thoughts that are impure enter in, we desire things that are agains the Lord and our own good judgement.

Today our society emphasizes how we feel. That is the most important thing. How we ‘feel’. And if we are honest, a lot of our ‘church’ stuff is based on that-feelings. We want to ‘feel’ the Spirit, forgetting that Satan can and does disguise himself as ‘…an angel of light…’ to lead us astray. That is where our brains must come into the picture. To discern the difference between ‘feelings from the (who really knows what) ‘spirit’ and the actual WORK of the Holy Spirit. It is here, where we can see clearly the work of Christ and then ask ourselves-is this right? Are these feelings ‘legitimate’? Do they line up with the work of sanctification?

And this is where the ‘Helmet of Salvation’ comes into play. It is a gift given to us to protect us while we use our brains-what the helmet is protecting-as we work towards sanctification. That is the work WE do, not for salvation-we were given that-rather the work God gave us to do to show ourselves ready to do the work God has for us to do, to ‘be holy, as I am holy.’ To feel safe and secure in the knowledge we are doing God’s work.

Scripture:

Ephesians 6:17

Romans 12:2

Colossians 3:1-16

Isaiah 30:9-11

2 Corinthians 11:13

Leviticus 11:44

Prayer: Grant me the discernment between the ‘feeling’ spirit and the work of the true Holy Spirit. Protect my mind and give me strength to battle desires of the flesh with the knowledge of Your Holiness. Help me to renew my mind, sanctifying myself to do YOUR work and not to gratify my personal fleshly feelings.
